My husband dared me to share this. I scoffed.

“I can’t possibly!” But I’ve now gone 2 days without a particular product, first shared with me by a friend of mine, who also doesn’t want to openly admit they’ve moved to the mass-produced “dark-side”, and I miss it.

Terribly.

Let’s go back a year.

The pandemic was just showing signs of actually being something to pay attention to, rumors of stay-at-home-orders and shut-downs lingered, and my parents were just about to board a ship for a 21-day South Pacific cruise embarking from Sydney.

Meh. While I hit up Aldi like everyone else: frozen foods, canned goods, and non-perishables, I honestly didn’t think a 2-3 week inconvenience would turn into a year of “Holy, shit.”

A few weeks into the shut-down, which wasn’t showing signs of ending, we ran out of coffee.

Let me repeat. WE. RAN. OUT. OFF. COFFEE. Good grief, man, are you hearing me?!

My local coffee shop did me a solid and dropped off our favorite ground blend to our front door. Saved.

But as the pandemic grew longer and longer, we found ourselves drinking more and more coffee and not being able to keep it on hand. Perhaps now is the time to admit we have a coffee addiction – but really, during a pandemic, CAN WE JUST HAVE THAT? Can we please just have that ONE thing?

Financially, I couldn’t keep up with my freshly ground Guatemalan. I needed my coffee. I needed it now. I needed it often.

That’s when my friend shared her secret.

Folger’s Black Silk. OH. MY. STARS.

Hold up. Slow down. I see your dropped jaw. Stop gaping.

While, at first, I was disappointed in myself, choosing a mass-produced product over local, I DID do some research. I was pleased to read about the families who supply beans to the company AND the efforts made to purchase green coffee in a responsible manner. Yes, I’m the girl who went to the website and read the content about the company and its sustainability efforts.

I do my best to support local businesses before larger companies, but I just can’t hold in my secret any longer. I adore this coffee. (No, I’ve not been paid or compensated to write this – I just felt the need to confess.)

Have you ever tried Folger’s Black Silk?
