I’m moving my Facebook address!
Before we head into the specifics, let’s define “wall” and “page”. Wall refers to my personal profile on Facebook. Page refers to www.fb.com/fitwithjo – which, up until now (read on) has primarily been used as a business page.

For those who are friends of mine on Facebook, you have no doubt been seeing the posts regarding my impending move over to www.fb.com/fitwithjo. I’ve had this page for a few years now, but have recently decided to make it my main home on Facebook. While the title is “Fit With Jo”, I am waiting on the Facebook “gods” to change the name of that page to “Joline Pinto Atkins”. The page will focus on LIFESTYLE fitness: not merely physical fitness.

Why am I moving?
1. Facebook policy does not allow business to be conducted on personal WALLS.
This is not a new policy. While I have definitely broken this policy, I have avoided being penalized for it – thankfully. Recently, however, Facebook has decided to crack down on on their policies by blocking, and at times, banning, those small business owners who have broken the agreement. These folks, many of them whom I know, are now blocked from friending new people and posting in their personal groups – which, for Beachbody, is where we do the bulk of our coaching. I do not want to risk being blocked or banned from Facebook, for it is both the most convenient way and the primary place where I connect with my customers.
*I am also researching a message board/forum plugin for this site, in the event I decide to move my groups to my own hosted website.
2. Facebook does allow business/marketing to be conducted on PAGES.
While I’ve had my Fit With Jo page for years, I’ve not given it the amount of focus it deserves in order to build it. I’ve been depending on my personal wall for social networking and Beachbody-related posts. I can do both from a business page.
*It’s ridiculous to have two “homes” on FB. Posting in both places would be overkill, and I can not keep both a wall and a page sufficiently updated. One will suffer. Chase two rabbits, lose both. I am choosing the business page.
3. Facebook pages do not cap the number of followers.
It may seem silly to be troubled that one can only have 5000 “friends”on one’s personal wall, but since I have, and continue to build a business on Facebook, I do not want to risk maxing out on friends – which, for me, includes a combination of friends, colleagues, and customers. Maxing out would only force me to eventually move to a business page anyway. Pages can have unlimited followers, so by moving to my page, I can increase my reach.
*My friends shouldn’t find much of a difference in content upon moving to my page. They won’t be inundated with Beachbody marketing. I’ll continue to share a mixture of social and business content, as has been the habit on my personal wall.
I will continue to post on my personal wall, albeit sparingly, about family, local information, and responses to comments and tags I receive . . . but, truly, my goal is to move the majority of my FB world to my page. So I hope you will follow me there!
If we’re friends on FB, please hop over and “like” my business page.
Fit with Jo will be changing to Joline Pinto Atkins come January 1st.
