I recently finished the first installment of Real Moms Making Real Money Blogging, At Home, In Their Pajamas (The Mommy Blogger Next Door Book 1), by Stephanie O’Dea. Stephanie ask a few of us to check out the first installment on her behalf. And the pleasure was all mine!
I was first introduced to Stephanie via her year of slow-cooking blog back in 2008. While slow-cooking wasn’t my thing back then, her household organizational tips were invaluable. I came to embrace what she calls the “Daily 7” and still attempt to follow those principles today. I adore the simplicity of her systems!!! Eventually she also won me over on the slow-cooking front. I now have a Facebook group for making friends with your slow-cooker in which we share Pinterest pages and websites with great recipes! Join us here!
But, let’s chat about Stephanie’s book for a bit.
Want to start a blog?
Have absolutely NO idea where to start?
Feeling overwhelmed by the amount of content you are reading from the blogging gurus on how to start a successful blogging adventure?
I know. I get it. I labor over this every day.
And then came Stephanie’s book!
Stephanie’s strength is that her writing sounds like you are just swapping ideas with a friend over coffee. I found that to be true in her slow-cooking blog, as well as her content covering home organization tips.
The Mommy Blogger Next Door, Volume 1 is no exception. It’s clear. It’s doable! You finish and think, “Hey! I’ve got this!”
Trust me when I say, you will walk away from this read feeling as if you now have some basics from which to begin:
- finding your niche
- finding your voice/brand
- social media tips
- time management advice
- how to make money
- and more!
All with Stephanie’s conversational style, in what I consider to be a blogging primer for those of us who want to blog from home, and perhaps even earn some coin while doing so!

I n eed a push to just get something out there. I have several directions my blog could go–all real. All me. I think once I got something out there, it would all fall into place. Just a getting started post.
Hi Joline! Shared on FB and Pinterest and would like to learn about how to just get started and get my first blog entry out there. I have ideas but am a bit overwhelmed with all the directions I could take. I need help to focus, write, publish, and go!
Jolene, I’m so happy that you enjoyed the book! Thank you for your help in getting the word out. I’m thrilled that I can be of help to you in some way in your blogging adventures!
thanks again — I really appreciate your support.
I need to learn how to find my voice and how to get over my fear of the dreaded first post.
Do you have a new blog/topic you post everyday? What are all your topics? How deep/personal do you get?
melissa,
Is that what you are hoping to learn??? Or is your question more of how do you come up with your niche?
I would like to refine my voice and understand what I want my focus to be. I also need to figure out how to prioritize my time in such a way that I make this happen. Shared on facebook!
Unfortunately, this contest is over, Kim! But perhaps I’ll do another at some point!
