Conversations With a Younger Me (Part 2)

In last week's post I shared about my years of journal-writing and how I'd be just fine if those journals were read by generations that come after me in my family, as my sister, younger brother, and I are the first generation of walking born-again Christians that I know of in our family tree. The theme of the week was "Conversations with our believing ancestors". Only, I don't know of any. I may be one of the first - I honestly don't know. This week, the conversation address me yet again - only the dialogue goes in a different direction. What [...]

Conversations With A Younger Me

"May those who come behind us find us faithful." You may recognize this lyric. It is just one line in a popular song from the 90's called "Find us Faithful." The full lyrics can be found here. So here's the thing - as we write about our ancestors who passed down their faith to us, I draw a blank. Not that Christ wasn't introduced to me - first by the Catholic Church, then by my older sister who led me to the Lord after she became a Christian in high school. No, my blank goes further back. Conversation with Paul

Saul. Turned to Paul. It was a dramatic conversion. I wonder after such a "hollywood-esque" transformation, how he felt afterwards. Not about the experience, but rather, about himself. "Paul," I would ask, "did you ever deal with regret for the things you did in your past? For the man that you were? For the people who you persecuted and killed? Or was that all washed away when Christ blinded you?" See, I'm doubting there was professional therapy to help work him through the personal demons of his past. Maybe he even experienced some PTSD. Perhaps penning all those letters was [...]
