The Green Letters

Told you I was going free-form today. What I didn't share was that I had also planned to go old school! I was first introduced to The Green Letters as a freshman at Ohio University. At the time, I was a young believer, and thankful to have connected with Campus Crusade for Christ, and more specifically, my discipler, Summar. She introduced me to this book pretty early on in our relationship, and while I honestly can't recall tiny specs and details of the content, I did retain, and continue to embrace, the larger take-away from this book. Our identity in [...]

The One Year Book of Hymns

What? The One Year Book of Hymns? You know it. My husband's first ministry call was to a church in Evanston, IL. When we arrived, they were just beginning to grapple with the idea of "traditional" vs. "contemporary" worship (mainly as it pertained to musical style.) Should there be 1 traditional service and 1 contemporary? Should there be a blended style for both services? Having just come from a church that did a very nice job combining all musical styles, I felt a bit out of place the first time we visited what would become our church home for the [...]

The Practice of the Presence of God

Yesterday I promised I wouldn't write any more posts about devotionals for moms and wives. Well, not specifically designed for them (us). Only, this one, a classic, would certainly be fitting for those who live such roles everyday. As well as everyone else. I first read Brother Lawrence's work back in the 1995, and couldn't chew on it fast enough. For while I was chomping at the bit to acquire everything he was sharing, it was a challenging course! Pretty meaty. This isn't fluff. What I appreciate most about BL is his desire to live in a conscious awareness of the [...]

The Power of a Praying Wife

Perhaps the overall title of my posts for this week should be, "Devotionals I Have Never Wanted to Read." This is one of them. I'd been married close to 17 years before I ever had an inkling to be involved in a ministry for Moms. I've never like "affinity" groups, opting for groups that had participants of all ages and stages, so hanging in a bible study with Moms just never appealed to me. Nor did "Mom" books.  Only, God threw me a curve and told me get involved at MomsRUs at my former church, so I obeyed. And, while [...]

100 Days Of Blessing

For me, the summer has the potential of messing with the morning routine that I stick to during the school-year. Wake. Make and check "To-Do" List. Coffee. Devotional. Work-out. I've fought to stick to these daily habits since January, and have been successful (for the most part) of not straying from this schedule. Knowing that the summer schedule would be a bit lazier, I thought ahead and challenged my Mom to Mom group to take the summer to journey through "100 Days of Blessing" by Nancy Campbell. Nancy is NOT a best-selling Christian author. Her book has NOT been made into a [...]
