Summer Devotional Reading

Daily Fast Fuel has been filling you up with tiny, nutrient-packed, bite-sized morsels for 12 weeks now. It is exciting for those of us serving you, for we prayed for months about this adventure prior to officially launching. And now, here we are, starting our 13th week. Never without a book, my family laughs at the fact that I am usually in the middle of three different books at the same time - especially when it comes to fictional works. For personal devotional material, I, like you, am fed by my fellow writers at DFF each morning. Only, staying true to [...]

I See _________ People!

People Watching: actively studying strangers without revealing the slightest bit of interest in them, and then proceeding to make conclusions about said people based on such observations as physical appearance, wardrobe, gestures, and speech. Or, basically - staring. It's human nature to give someone the stare-down (while trying desperately not the be caught in the process). Let's all be honest and admit that when we do stare, we fall prey to the judgment trap. I know I do. My husband and I notice shoes. Specifically, the bad choices many women make in their choice of footwear. You know, the styles [...]

“Christ Follower, What’s Your 10-20?”

I grew up in a cb radio family. Never mind that as kids my parents let us chat it up with truckers as we took family vacations in our enormous station wagon. That's for another post. While I can't remember my handle, I do recall my brother's being "cracker jack". On our family road trips there was an endless supply of us fighting over who would get to say, "Hey there, good buddy! This is ________. What's your 10-20?"  For those of you not familiar with the world of citizen's band radio, 10-20 means, "What's your location?" or "Where are you?". [...]

Fearfully Made? Or Full of Fear?

"Can I make an observation?" I was having an online conversation with a friend who is not a believer. "For a people who confess hope, Christians seem awfully scared of a lot of stuff." Ouch. And, tru 'dat. I agree with her. This fear to which my friend referred is indeed present in Christian circles. We are bombarded with world, national, and local news, the internet, blogs, and talk radio. There are natural disasters, political scandals, murder, oppression, and a decline of morals. Funny. We certainly do seem preoccupied with the world. We, the very people who confess to believe in [...]

May I Have This Dance?

If you've only seen a God who is uninterested in your seemingly small stuff, you should get your eyes checked. Let me set the scene. Coffee shop. Guys and Doll's music spread out on the table. Pencil in hand. CD player and earphones with cast recording annoyingly replaying the same song. (Pre-iPod days.) Choreographer brain-freeze. As in, pencil-tapping stumped. Not wanting to do the same 'ole, same 'ole that one sees in this production, I was straining to come up with something clever and unique. With 45 minutes until rehearsal, my pages were blank. That's when I gave up. With [...]
