As a fitness professional, there is absolutely no question as to whether I should be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
This past weekend, I renewed my training with Start the Heart, locally owned and operated by Scott and Brenda Frank. (www.starttheheart.com) Certified by both the American Heart Association and the Emergency Care & Safety Institute, Start the Heart is an authorized Emergency Care & Safety Institute Education Center based in Pine Township. Their menu of class offerings in various emergency care techniques is vast, and they also specialize in large group training for corporations, businesses and schools. Their CPR/AED training was so exceptional and thorough that I walked away from this recent course feeling capable and confident should a situation arise where I would need to step up and assist.
Fitness participants should feel secure that their instructor is investing time to learn life-saving techniques and engage in continuing education to stay current.
However, CPR/AED is not simply a fitness instructor’s responsibility.
