March 20, 2020. My first virtual class.

We may be rounding the bend of the yearly anniversary when all the world went virtual, but that doesn’t mean our collective online existence will be completely disappearing anytime soon.

Take fitness classes, for example. Some people just like the convenience of staying home.

As one who never planned to teach group fitness classes online, even though I got my start in fitness via home DVD programs and still use an enormous streaming platform for my personal workouts, teaching live from my basement was never the plan.

Sometimes, we don’t know the plan until we are presented with no other options.

In March of 2020, my choices were:

A. figure out how to adapt my group fitness classes for online instruction, or
B. stop teaching until the COVID crisis ends

Good thing I went with “A”.

Fitness for every body. (Nope, that’s not a typo. Read it again.)

Accessibility is often overlooked in my industry. Thus, when I started teaching online, I wanted to ensure that I offered classes in which anyone would feel welcome.

Accessibility, of many factors, was, and still is, key.

  • Financial accessibility: Teaching a live virtual class just isn’t the same as teaching in-person. Period. My online classes are appropriately priced lower than if one were in the actual studio. Plus, I want people to be able to afford classes during this economically-difficult time in our world.
    • Thus, drop-ins are $8 for Strong Nation and P90X and pay-what-you-want for Tabata.
    • Monthly subscriptions are set at $25 (for one class/week) and $45 for 3/week.
    • First-time participants receive a $7 credit towards the class of their choice.
  • Physical accessibility: Proper adaptations are offered for all movements in each of my classes. While I do suggest starting with P90X and Tabata over Strong Nation which has a bit of a more challenging learning curve due to the tempo-driven formatting, great care is given to demonstrate variations of exercises for those choosing to take things down a notch. However, seasoned exercisers will feel right at home as well.

  • Format accessibility: You want variety. I get it. I offer three different class formats to keep things interesting. Tabata, a cardio format offering a TON of variety, is designed to challenge the participants to work at their own individual pace. Strong Nation, a choreographed, tempo-driven HIIT experience syncs exercises to the rhythm of incredible music.  And P90X LIVE, of which we focus solely on lower and upper strength-training portions, gives participants a foundation for strength-training.
    • Three formats from which to choose.
    • All classes are 30-45 minutes long.
    • Each class round is taught for 4 consecutive weeks (6 weeks for Strong Nation) giving YOU several weeks to build familiarity and confidence!

“Where should I start?”

If you are new to exercise, I suggest beginning with P90X and eventually adding Tabata and Strong Nation (in that order.) Sign up here for $7 towards your first class with me.

“But what about using Beachbody on Demand?”

It’s great also. Especially for those who can not be tied to a specific schedule. For those who choose BOD, part of my service as a Coach is to direct you to a workout that fits your goals, interests, available equipment, and even time considerations. There are three membership plans, and all offer 14-days free. (If you are working with a Beachbody Coach or have ever purchased from Beachbody, please connect with your coach or discuss how can make a coach switch.)

“How do I get support with these virtual options?”

I know people are sour about social media, but it’s still the best way for me to connect with folks. You are more than welcome to join my FIT LIFE group on FB (free and private). It is my “thank you” for your newsletter subscription. BUT, I will not add you. That’s a step YOU must take.

I’m all about helping you take your next steps.

The next step doesn’t need to be a huge leap. A small step will do.

What’s next for you?
